Almost when VOIP Guide gave up on new Free Calling services, another regular reader Ranjt pointed me to this new betamax service called 12voip. I always wonder from where betamax comes out with names :-) 12voip doesn't make sense to me. Jokes, apart but Betamax keep rolling their new VOIP services and increase voip provider portfolio almost every 2 months.
However, at first look there is nothing great about 12voip besides that they offering unlimited free calls to multiple countries as long as you pay 10 euros for 3 months to keep your account active. That means to continue to make free calls to these destinations (some rare destinations included such as russia, malaysia, peru, portugal etc.) you need to top-up every 3 months. Yearly cost will be around 40 euros. Which is not all that bad, but I always hate betamax customer service. I meant they virtually don't have one.
Any hints, why they provide such FREE and low cost VOIP service. Since many of you are interested in knowing whether 12voip offers service for India. Well they do offer cheaper calls to India and it costs around 0.100 cents (I guess its 0.1), which is way low compared to other competitors.
Overall 12voip sounds like a good deal but I wouldn't go and top up my account in a hurry. A 10 euro top-up and 3 months usage might be good idea to evaluate their service and voice quality. Betamax voip service often have difrerent voice qualities for e.g voipcheap is better than voipdiscount
so if you want to test 12voip, Go download 12voip

well Vinay
0.1 euro sents so its not cheaper at all. anyway i am using their service for long time with other clones
its fine
mistake their: "Well they do offer cheaper calls to India and it costs around 0.100 cents (I guess its 0.1), which is way low compared to other competitors."
Most of the people are able to find service under .100 Euro/min. its not .1 cent its 10 Euros which is a lot if you concerts in US dollar.
Thanks for your support
Hi Vinay,
What is this statement mean, if i buy the credit then i can call only one person?.
*in order to call a person in one of the free destinations, you have to add this person to your contactlist
pradeep
Nil you got it wrong i guess. 10 euros per calls is insane. What they meant is 0.10 cents per call. 10 euros is a flat charge for using 12voip for 3 months free calls to limited destinations.
pradeep, it means you need to add the number you want to call as a contact.
12Voip is not at all cheap. It is giving 16 cents/min (including vat) from US to India, where as reliance is giving 8 cents/min for the same. so it is half the price compared to 12 Vopi. Do you know guys any cheaper rate from US to India?
hi vinay
thanks for supplying such good stuff about free calling voip services..but am using globe7 and lycos phone..i would be grateful to u if u find a hack for the same.thx.
hi vinay..
this is subha here..
i wouls be grateful to u if u find some hack for globe7 service..thanks
In my opinion 0.100 is 10 cents. 10€/min is quite impossible and 1 cent./min gets too cheap and which I really doubt. So what I think its 10 cents.
But another thing that I'd like to say is that 0.100/min is excluding the VAT. So after VAT it gets 0.119/min to india (landline/mobile).
DJ
Its not 0.1 cent but its 0.1 euro/min.. which is not at all a cheap rate. since another voip of the same company called just voip offers 3 cent/mint to india mobile+landline..
Thanks guys for correcting me. Its not very clear if its 0.1 euro or 0.10 euros. but yeah, i missed the point that its euros and not cents.
Since US economy is falling down, euros are gonna cost more :-)
well the cheapest one from betamax for india is lowratevoip.com
which is around 5 euro cents per minute to mobile and 6 euro cents to fixed phone
The best rates for India are from justvoip which is 3 cents and the mentioned service 12voip also give you a rate of 3 cent p/min to India Landline which is cheapest in market
www.justvoip.com is best provider to make a call to india just 3 cents per min
Hi,
The rates in 12 voip is very unstable(ie changing) at present. couple of days ago when it was launched, call to india was mentioned 2 euro cents per minute, for both mobile and landline. But now it has changed.
One more thing is interesting to note that, previously the voip site like voipbusters, voipcheap etc owned by betamax was located in Cologne, Germany. But now they have shifted to Rotterdam, Netherlands(for some reason i don't understand,a simple domain check of the sites confirms it).
It seems that Betamax is on geographical migration.
Hi vishnu ,thanks for sharing info..i went through the justvoip and they are charging 0.049 $ per Min including VAT for mobile & land line.but where as 12voip charging 0.161 $ for mobile and forland line they are charging 0.049$.this is as per my understanding.
Hi
Did anybody tried to buy credits?, i did & now i have a question, with every call my balance is reducing, but it was told that 10euros for 3 months & calls are unlimited right. Please let me know if anybody is using & having similler issue.
Pradeep
Pradeep,
which destination did you call? is it a part of their free destinations offer? if not they will charge you.
Vinay, i tried india landline, so i will be charged right. But the audio quality was very good.
Pradeep
Yes, for India 12voip will charge you. Since its not FREE. Hope that clarifies.
Thanks for reviewing their audio quality. How much did they charge you per min?
12voip is charging 7.2 US cents/min for a call from US to india. whereas in their website they are saying 4.9 c i guess.
thats crazy so do you mean, 12voip is discreetly charging us more that their official rate?
i still find 12voip lot better since voice quality is good
Jemmy
12voip rocks much better than lowarevoip.
12voip does not support SIP? it doesnt seem to recognise my netgear phone
any help appreciated
yes, they do support SIP. check if ur SIP settings are done properly.
i agree that 12 voip voice quality is excellent
vinay,
can we transfer credit from justvoip to 12voip. there should be some way coz its the same betamax co.? any idea or hack lol
12voip is charging me more for calls to dubai..any idea?
How i can purchase credit for Justvoip? Even though credit card option is available it is always giving failure? Resellers are too expensive
Don't use it !!!!!!
This nice service will charge you 0,1 cent for all destinations (no free destinations) once you buy credit so avoid it there are other cheap provider around
That's right. Once I credited 10euro, the message "Your freedays have expired; nomal rates will be applied" shown on software which is just fraud. They charge 1 cent per minute even for calling to "free zone" (eg.Japan, New Zealand) and customer service has never replied. Does anybody have same problem?
Jeys
12voip is not so good. i thought it would be cheaper or better but not at all.
12voip is not all that bad.as i see some very negative reviews here. works fine for me in denmark.
12voip works good for me here in sweden.
12voip might be charging more, i still use lowratevoip to be on safer side

I have the same problem! I credited the account...and for my big surprise...my freedays had expired from the first day! I've sent them an e-mail asking what's going on and I'm waiting for the answer.
Mike
12voip billing system seems to be screwed up.
voice quality of 12voip is good if they fix all the billing issues, it will be a good alternative for cheaper calls to many countries
It was happen for me to... after I credited the 10 euro account the message "Your freedays have expired; nomal rates will be applied" appearead on the panel. They charge 1 € cent/min for all free zones. I've send to customer service many e-mails but they never replied. I thing this is missleading advertising and I'm going to cancell credit card transaction and I suggest all shoould call own card company to cancell the transaction because of misleading service.

From Singapore, its 0.03 euro cents/min which is quite cheap as compared to the other voip services.
The voice quality is pretty good. At least for now I'm sticking with 12voip.
For those of you who said the freedays have expired, I have thes same issue. So if its solved, let me know =)
I still don't have the SIP settings. Can someone help me with that?
Maddy
Dear Gentlemen,
I have the same problem as you did
with 12VOIP after paying for the
credit and get expired freedays.
I put in a dispute with PAYPAL and
I will let you know my resolution.
Vinay said... (regarding 12voip.com)

Hello, can you please show the correct sip register or the proxy, as common tries to sip.12voip.com and register.12voip.com and proxy.12voip.com are non getting anywhere.
If you can please publish what you or someone has used to get a successful SIP based fone connected it will be really helpful.
What about justvoip.com do they have a SIP connection possibility to connect a SIP enabled fone or router ? as far as you know ? given that they have the same style of the website which classes within the 12voip group which has a marked difference from the other group of voipstunt.com and lowratevoip.com
Your Clarifications to this SIP issue are very much appreciated, thanks in advance.

I thought it would be interesting to note this found on the fring forum http://www.fring.com ::
Unfortunately it is not a SIP compatible VOIP service.
Which is why it doesn't work with fring.
Betamax are "notorious" for introducing new services with very cheap calls to popular destinations that are NOT SIP-compatible
regards,
aniston
you are right aniston. They dont provide SIP. I am still finding the guy who told me they do :-)
I am getting fed up of betamax services who turn out to be uselss coz they dont like to interoperate. In future, companies who do not support SIP, people should simply ignore them. SIP is future.
By the way fring rocks.
I made a few free test calls on Tuesday 10th July, 2007 to see if 12voip was for real. All seemed OK so I made a 10 Euro credit and immediately found that my free days had expired and that normal call rates would apply. I wrote to 12voip twice querying this but, as of this moment, have received no reply.
My questions to 12voip users are:
1. Does the credit/free-call system actually work for the bulk of users?
2. Is the problem I (and others) have encountered an aberration in an otherwise smooth operation?
3. Is the whole service a scam?
Would appreciate some guidance on this matter because I want to use this system; want to trust it; want to tell my colleagues about it..........Thank you.

I want to stress what happened to me, I downloaded 12voip a few days ago. I paid last night €10+ use service. I want to call Turkey which is on there list advertised as ''Free'' calls and was billed 25cents for 7 minutes, which is not bad I know, however it's meant to be FREE. I did send support a responce but got no reply. My next step is to charge back to palpal which I doing now.
Good luck with chargeback. however, Paypal stopped doing settlement regarding online purchages or transactions, that was the last i heard.
Let us know if u r able to get through the paypal chargeback.
in order to call a person in one of the free destinations, you have to add this person to your contactlist.
12voip and nonoh is from same company?
Is the problem solved yet? I still see my credits drop when I call to free zones. Why are they doing this???
12 Voip is fentastic for the voice quality if U use a high speed net.. I use it last few months from Middle east to call India, compare to other service providers the charge is little high to India 0.04 Euro & Mobile 0.035.recently they increased 0.005 Euro.for ndia.
Still it is O.k. Just I want to know can we use this protocol with mobile phones,or a P.C is essential..?. I mean for making calls
still no luck with the SIP setting of 12voip.com ?
Noman
About 12voip you should not be confused by two different 10 euros toppings for the account. If you add 10 euros credit then you are not getting freedays you have to add 10 euros extra for free days and that option you can see on payment page. I use it to call from my home phone. They take connection charges which is .050 euros per call but other than that the rates that they say on the website are totally right except for the fact that they chenge it pretty often. for instance when i signed up there was free calls to Pakistan Landlines and now its .005 euros. Still very cheap. I did get free call for 3 days and not i m paying .005 euros per min +.050 connection fee for every call and i m very satisfied. I just wish they were SIP compatible
i use nonoh.net
it costs 2.5 euro cent = 0.025 euro per min
downside is that they dont have a dialer and you have to only connect phone to phone (at no extra cost)
Hi Folks,
I was wondering if anyone could help me with SIP settings for 12voip. I am trying to get that working on my nokia e65 but I don't know their SIP server. In the FAQ for 12VOIP, they say that we can use our own SIP device and has link to SIP setting but it is broken. So anyone has SIP setting. it will be great.
Thanks in advance.
Raka
sip registrar server
connectionserver2.12voip.com
Voipbuster, voipstunt, lowratevoip, budgetsip, webcalldirect Reseller visit TokoHemat.com accept International Payment Methods such as Liberty Reserve , webmoney , Egold, etc.
12voip.com support, its website says it. The problem is that they haven't configured DNS registers to point to SIP servers.
All Betamax servers are common, you can use as sip server for 12voip.com this address:
sip.voipbuster.com
I've configured Xlite on a Macintosh with my 12voip.com account using sip.voipbuster.com and I've been able to make calls.
Bye
Thanks for the hint. It is working, finally. Settings for Siemens S450 IP:
domain: voipbuster.com
proxy server address: voipbuster.com
Proxy server port: 5060
Registrar server: sip.voipbuster.com
Stun server: stun.voipbuster.com
Don't use connectionserver2 (see above), it registers you, but you're unable to make any call.
Helllo Everyone,
Yes, I have also been banging my fricking head against the wall trying to configer SIP for 12Voip with no success. They do provide instructions on how to set it up on their page but they use the 12voip.com and sip.12voip.com. Thanks to this page I found out that they use the voipbuster servers. I´ve finally got it and here are all the paramaters I used and yes it works wonderfully well and I must also say that for its very low prices and audio quality it is one of the best I´ve found around:
Authentication Name: your user name (what you use on your software to log on)
Authentication Pass: your password
Username: used the same as Authentication Name
Display Name: Whaterver you want
Domain: voipbuster.com
Proxy Server Addres: sip.voipbuster.com
Proxy Server Port: 5060
Registrar Server: connectionserver2.12voip.com
Registrar Server Port: 5060
stun server: stun.voipbuster.com (which I didn´t enable, it is not needed)
Outbound proxy: left empty
I set it up with the Siemens Gigaset C475 IP Phone and if anyone has the same handset I can send you a screenshot of the configuration with the paramaters. (dimitrizeus@gmail.com)
I am using 12voip for some time already. For me it's worth it, I am making calls home that are free - if you don't count the refill. 10euro / 3 months to talk home unlimited with good sound quality I don't think is that bad. As for you guys that are calling to India the prices are 6.7 $cents/min for landline and 5.9 $cents/min for mobile (VAT included). If you want to call cheaper to India landline I would suggest a Nobelcom card that is 2.9$cents/min. Does anyone have any idea of a mobile version of the 12voip or other voip thing? I have a smartphone and it would be awesome to have one of these on it.
Hi All,

I was using 12voip for couple years with no problem. I tried to buy more credit and the system requieres a code, but the system indicated an "error". I tried several times to get the code but nothing has happended.I still waiting for the code on my cell. I feel so frustrated. There are Agents that I can buy minutes, however I do not trust them because there is not enough information about them. I am not going to put my credit card!!! I am frustrated with 12voip.
