Globe 7 started advertising based VOIP model some years back and instanly became hit. They managed to get over 1 million globe 7 client downloads in no time.
However stopped offering free Pc to Phone calls once they established themselves as a known voip providers. Globe 7 started offering free calls in lieu of watching streaming video content from media partners. If you watch a video, they used to credit your account with talktime which you could use to make calls anywhere in the world.
The things have changed since then and now Free Calls are non-existent besides a few sponsord offers minutes. However the sponsored minutes page when we checked was seriously difficult to understand. There is no clear criteria on how the minutes will be credited and What sponsor expects from the visitor.
This leaves Globe 7 to be recognised as a pure cheap VOIP provider. Why cheap? coz they offer some great competitive rates to some destinations. For e.g: According to their website, India can be reached at 0.0528 thats about 5 cents per minutes. Surely looks competitive in comparison to the Standard market rate of close to 6-8 cents per minute.
Globe 7 version 8.0 also offers Soft Phone, IM, Videos, Games, News. You can add more widgets to the softphone from their website.
At the end of the day, Globe 7 is just another VOIP service which offers low cost calls to certain countries.

since I have a stong interest in VOIP I tend to be the one that family and friends turn to for saving money on phone calls. often I am asked how can I make free calls by watching ads; usually they read or heard something about ad based telephone. everyone that I suggested globe7 has been very dissapointed. what vthey wanted was to watch an ad before or while they make each call. with globe7 it is not really ads; you have to sign up and be put into different marketing databases. you also have to provide lots of personal details. most people refuse to do this and never even make the first call. those who do take the time and do a survey or take one of the offers is very dissappointed when they find out that it will 2 or 3 days before they recieve a voucher and get credit for free calls. iut is not made clear that you do nmot recieve they credit instantly.
they may have a million people sign up but I doubt they get much bussiness from them. this model will not evolve into the free phone calls for the masses supported by ads. for that it would need to be much more like ads on TV, radio, magazines, etc. in none of these instances do you have to register your personal details to benefit from free watching, listening, or low price to purchase magazine with interesting articles.
what would people go to in droves. something like earthcaller with ads displaying in the browser window that allows calls to the more expensive destinations without signup.
I must agree i made a lot of free calls from Globe7 when it was offering free call in lieu of watching videos. The voice quality was good & it connected in no time. However they abruptly end it & it was disappointing to note that they started putting spyware (owlforce:Owlforce.dll, Ofb1.dll). The sponsored minutes do work & u r credited with them no doubt, but there r very few (i just got 1$ offers till now although i am a member of more than a year.
