Annoyed with your home phone service or VOIP provider? Paying monthly $$$ just to make unlimited phone calls? Then we got the ultimate solution for you. Just buy this device once and make free unlimited local USA calls for 3 years no monthly charges.
Choosing a VOIP Service is an extremely challenging job. We always thought of reviewing each voip provider for our readers and we hope to do that in near future. You can consider this review of ooma VOIP as the start of the VOIP provider comparison series.
Its extremely important to look for following factors before we choose our home phone service.
1) Reliability of the Service: How many years the service is live and running.
2) Quality of the service: This is very important since some VOIP providers suck at lower bandwidth speeds and only demand 1 mbps + connection.
3) People behind the company: Yes, this is important. Known companies tend to survive better than unknown firms.
Lets compare the above 3 important factors to Ooma and why you should buy Ooma and replace your existing service.
1) Ooma is run by a bunch of executives known for entepreneurship or technical Excellence. Names such as Andrew Frame (named, Tech's Best Young Entrepreneurs)and movie actor, Ashton Kutcher (don't be surprised) make them an interesting home phone provider.
2) Quality of service of Ooma can be better than others. Why? Coz Ooma would use supernodes to connect to each other. All ooma users connected to each other build a network of users who share bandwidth and improve your voice quality. Wonder why Skype is still better in voice quality than your favorite voip provider? Simply coz it runs off supernodes.
3) Reliability: Well Ooma will be free atleast for 3 years. After 3 years, they might or might not continue with the free service. However, You don't need to pay a single cent to them during the 3 years for local USA calls across all US states. I guess that seals the deal.
Lets see What Ooma is offering:
1) The Instant Second Line™, providing two lines on one number
2) The Broadband Answering Machine™ to screen messages & send to voicemail
3) Premium calling features, like call-waiting, three-way calling, and online voicemail, with more on the way
4) Unlimited US calling
5) Flexibility to integrate or eliminate a low-cost landline at any time
6) Call almost anywhere in the world for less than two cents per minute
7) Take your ooma system anywhere you move in the US
9) No monthly fees or contracts
10)Save thousands on phone bills!

Excellent stuff. Do I have to be in USA to signup? I am from usa but currently in shanghai on a business trip. Hope its fine, just confirming with you.
Thanks for another excellent review. I first thought ooma is not like that stupid joiphone, but then i dont have to pay them any monthly charges lol. So looks perfect.
here i kick joiphone, there i come ooma. will let you know how my service works.
vinay, you providing this voucher for how many days?
In my opinion Ooma has a very uniqure business model -- going after the hardware sales rather than the monthly subscriptions. As what of the thesis of my Ooma article says, it could be a VOIP game changer.
I can 't help but wonder though: While this model is a great thing for the users if all things are working well, What if things go bad for the company? What will happen to those Ooma devices that the users have purchased?
Anyway, it's nice that you're offering discounts for the product. :)
The Ooma VOIP device works outside of the US, but can only be shipped to a US address. Therefore, you would have to transport it out of the country yourself.
In case anyone has not seen the numerous posts, there are serious security and privacy problems with this approach that you need to weight against any possible savings in money. Letting unknown persons use your telephone line to place their calls is not too smart. Ooma says they block the Calling Line ID, but we know that there are still cases in which the called party can get that info. If another Ooma subscriber uses your line to terminate their call, the called party may see your phone number. What if the call is a bomb threat?
Ooma is not going to survive this industry for a few reasons some of which are
1. There's no money in hardware...services, services, services is key. Without consumables or a recurring revenue stream, they're doomed.
2. In the telecom / phone industry, there are 4 critical elements. the network, billing system, support, and sales staff. While they may have the sales staff...not even star power will save them. After the hardware purchase, whats next?
3. Post Sale support. how will they turn revenue on a one time sale. Logistics, returns, warranties etc.
4. The use needs a really good internet connection (including router etc) to enjoy the benefits of oomla. If your service is poor or you're dropping packets because you run intensive applications...who will you call? LinkSys, ATT or Oomla?...
The list is endless.....
moreover, VOIP providers like Unia Telecom - www.uniatelecom.com and Vonage - www.vonage.com stand a much better chance due to recurring revenue, growing customer base etc.
