With the recent news of ISP's being allowed to enter the VOIP market, Calling rates to India are getting extremely competitive and I have heard rumours that calling rate to India can be dropped to 1-2 USD cents (permanently) once these companies start rolling in their own VOIP infrastructure.
You don't wait for that day to come. Betamax (once again) has slashed calling rates to India to a mere 1.5 eruocents (2.2 USD cents). This is currently available on FreeCall. This is probably the cheapest international calling rate to India.
Apparently, they also offer SIP based calls. You can use the following settings:
Proxy domain: sip.voiparound.com : 5060
User domain: sip.voiparound.com
stun.voiparound.com : 5060
You can use this with your SIP Phone or VOIP adapter or even your favorite SIP Softphone. If you don't know how to set a SIP on Softphone, Read our how to Configure SIP provider on SIP Softphone .
Please note, Betamax usually charges 5 cents connection fee if the calls are routed via SIP (anything other than their own softphone). Please check before you start making calls using SIP.
We still can't rely on Betamax (FreeCall) as the cheapest VOIP Provider for India. As usual, we know these rates won't last for long, however lets hope they do. In the mean time, Lets just find out a stable long term cheap VOIP provider for India. We are confident that in the coming months, we will find someone good enough.

vinay,
thanks for the information. But these days I am getting a problem with payments to betamax. I have several betamax account as usual and using the same credit card for all ( as I have only one card :( ). Now, they stopped taking payment from my credit card to any of their account even they stopped taking through ELV. Since they take one moneybookers and paypal account (I lost about 12.50 euros for these unnecessary rule) I cannot pay by this method anymore. Now only method left is bank transfer, which takes atleast 3-4 days. Now my problem is I cannot sign in to a new offer immediately and their offer goes very soon :( . I am a heavy user and I used to spend a lot (about 150-200 euros a month). Please let me know about some solution of the above mentioned payment problem. Also, please advice me any other possibility which can reduce my expense.
As always, I hope you will provide some good solution for me.
Thanks in advance.
S. Paul
Hi Vinay,
I am from Dubai, UAE. I was using Betamax services more than 2 years. Now I bought a SPA 3102 VOIP router. But I couldn't make use of it. None of my accounts got worked in it. I made all the settings exactly as in their website. Everytime I am getting status of line 1 as : Registration failed. How it is like that? Could you please help me in this matter.
Best Regards
Pradeep /Dubai
tried that using my sip device. UK calls are free and not charging the connection charges as of yet. but that might change soon.
FYI...
Airtel in India, has a feature of sending an sms through email. You send a sms 147 characters long from any email provider. All you have to do is send a mail to number@airtellkk.com ( for eg 8984512345@airtelkk.com , this is for karnataka, for other states you can check the Airtel website.

vinay i have read many of your blogs relating to VoIP. I am from UAE and i would like to make free calls. do u have any trick to mane? pls yaar. even 2.5 or 1.5 is costly for me as i have to make phone calls for quite long time. pls help me. thanks. email: just_friend0202@rediff.com
every one knows that betamax changes its rates over night. even you state the same...still what makes you post the services by betamax, at the end we end up paying exchange rates to euros and once they change rate all we get is same. for me it looks like you have an understanding with them!!
Dear Vinay,
Can you suggest any voip provider other than betamax who provides cheapest calls to india with good quality? Say the second best costwise after betamax.
Thanks
Mukesh
This for comments of Mr. S.Paul.He didn't mention which country he resides.Other than India betamax have resellers and we can recharge through them.If he wirte his email address i can instruct him how to make payments through voip resellers.
Vinay ,
Continue your great bloggs on the cheap Voip services.
Even though Betamax is greedy , but rates are the cheapest in the market and also offering free calls to several countries

My settings for SPA 3102 work fine for voipcheap (another batamax product).
Cheers,
Priyanka
P.S:My response may be delayed as I am bit tied up !!
Hi Priyanka,
Thanks for your interest in my problem. I am trying to setup the SPA 3102 for the Voipraider. I made the settings as same as they described in their site.Eventhough it is showing that : REGISTRATION failed. I am thinking that i missed an important factor somewhere else. but i cant find where it is? Could you please help me in this matter.
best regards
Pradeep T James
Hi Pradeep T,
I use voip cheap for out going calls using a dial plan. You will need to set the voipraider account on say GW2 .. only for outgoing calls. You may not register to make calls in case u use this settings.
Please backup your existing settings before changing anything.
I am explaining the setup using GW2 to call out from the ata.
To callout using the dial plan a india number say 912025656xxx using GW2 .. you use the following:
#2912025656xxx (#2 is to tell dail paln to use GW2)
SPA 3102 settings
Login using admin click advanced then on line1 tab ensure the following settings:
Make Call Without Reg:Yes
Ans Call Without Reg: Yes
GW2 Auth ID:YOURVOIP Radier ID
GW2 password: your voipraider passwd
Gateway 2:sip.Voipraider.com
GW2 NAT Mapping Enable: YES
Try using dail plan:
(*xx|[3469]11<:@gw1>|<#2,:>xx.<:@gw2>|<#3,:>xx.<:@gw3>|<#4,:>xx.<:@gw4>|<#5,:>xx.<:@gw0>|0|00|[2-9]xxxxxx|1xxx[2-9]xxxxxxS0|xxxxxxxxxxxx.)
After you set this up your going calls should go through.. now the person receiving the calls will not be able to see any caller id
In case you want the outgoing caller id to be displayed when calling. Follow the following steps:
1.Register the caller id in the voipraider software -->tools -->options --> caller id.
2.Validate it when voip raider calls you (in case of landline)For example if your caller is a usa number 1878567XXXX (1 is country code)
3. Enter the caller id in your ata. The Gateway 2 value on spa3102should be :
Gateway 2: 1878567XXXX@sip.Voipraider.com
OR
Gateway 2: 001878567XXXX@sip.Voipraider.com
See if it works.. do let me know.. you may want to share your email id ( a junk one) so that i can help you directly , in case u need further help.
My response may be delayed due to heavy workload.
Cheers,
Priyanka.
P.S: I have seen Vinay telling blogging about providers who are offering DID's. Well there are India DID's being offered too for @ $25 - $ 50 per month with 3000 incoming minutes. I find that costly though..
Hello All
Today Freecall has increased calls to India mobile to 2 cents. Calls to landline are remain 1.5 cents.
We need to find alternative reliable VOIP product, which does not change the rates suddenly cheating the users.
Regards
I have cheaper and Safer way to Talk to India. No Phone or Software Installation is Needed.
Only 3.00INR/min

Recently i brought a Voipraider account,Call Clarity is very Good ,But all of suddens Call rates will be changed without intimation. Can u suggest me which voip provider is Best call to India. Here i am mentioned my email id pavan_karthick21@yahoo.com.
Please suggest me
Vinay, I use freecall and Intervoip all the time. Mostly I use freecall as it's the cheapest to India. Freecall and Intervoip does NOT charges 5 cents when you use a SIP device. In my example the Nokia N95. I even use SPA3102-AU and still get charged the same advertised rate on their website. SIP rate is additioanl on Voipraider and Calleasy. Can you please edit your blog so people are aware of this.
I came recently across a new provider from the UK called NYMGO
www.nymgo.com
till now i guess they are the cheapest if coopered to all other providers, they have calls that start from $0.003.
india is for 2.3 cents mobile
WOW, you are right about NYMGO, they really have some crazy prices
