Skype a leader in PC to PC VOIP market wants to get a fair share of the PC to Phone calling market. After introducing some really cool Unlimited Calling plan, they are pushing into the more lucrative India Calling market.
Skype now introduced a new plan to make cheap calls to india. Well, lets see if its really that cheap when you use skype.
Skype India 300 plan basically gives you 300 minutes to call india landlines across india for €9.95(€11.44 incl VAT). Now that works out to 3.8 euro cents per minute which is really very costly. When actionvoip offers calls around 1 cent per minute to India, Skype India 300 plan really looks costly. Skype however would definately offer you better voice quality.
The biggest downside of using Skype is obviously its a PC based service unless you have a Skype Phone.
Considering the availability of the call, features and cost, we believe Skype India 300 plan is probably only good for Skype fans who find it easier to use Skype and not so tech savvy for SIP yet.
Skype can get lot easier than SIP at times especially with new users or people who probably have no idea how VOIP works.
If you are currently using Skype India 300 plan, please post your review/feedback/comments.

Not using India plan, but am using Skype phone for N.America use. $3 a month for unlimited calling in Canada and the U.S. is okay by me!
I would have definitely gone for it even thought slightly expensive compared to other VOIP services if the plan includes mobile phones too..
It's good to see that Skype finally realized the potential of Indian customer base.
There are three things that will happen in near term
1)Skype will stop provising this plan as there won't be any customers for this plan.
2)Skype will reduce the rate to match with Airtel and Reliance atleast or lower.
3) else some smartass Indian brain will get some hack to make unlimited free calls to India using this Skype plan:) (Unlikely).
I am really surpised that when there is such a margin in India calling plans (assuming actionvoip still makes money on their India rate)why on the earth other big carriers(AT&T, Qwest, T-Mo) are still quiet?
Not supporting SIP is another issue with Skype but thats true with Airtel and reliance too.
Thanks,
umesh
I agree with you Vinay. No body is going to use skype at a such high rate. Action voip and other services give flexibility to call from both PC and mobile while skype only offer call form pc.
rate is too high
Skype is costliest in todays market where you get 1 cent per minute phone to phone call actionvoip smartvoip offer you. Then when is the point of paying 3 cent thst too for pc to phone cal
I use Mediaring Talk, www.mediaringtalk.com. It offers free calls to 8 global countries and rates for other countries are less than 2 cents. It's awesome
