We have been long hunting for a VOIP service provider offering unlimited international calls to India. Finally we found MetroPCS, but is MetroPcs worth your money? Read our MetroPCS Review before you signup.
MetroPCS is a prepaid cell phone carrier based in Dallas,Texas and now its also offering a unlimited Phone Service and offers unlimited international call package to call over 100 countries for $5 only. Well, don't get lured by $5 offer, you need to be an existing MetroPCS phone customer in order to qualify for this unlimited calling package.
MetroPCS offers an unlimited national calling plan that costs $40, $45, or $50 a month. If you are one of the AT&T customers you might end up paying $3.99 for a cheap international call package, however MetroPCS will allow you to make unlimited international calls for $5 when you have one of their national calling plan.
Its obvious that this offer is only valid for USA customers. As one of the reader noted, MetroPCS was extremely successful with their Unlimited Calls to Mexico plan and now wants to go a step beyond and offers unlimited calls to the world.
The good things, you can make calls to 100 countries which includes India, Bangladesh and many more.
Now considering that you will end up taking the lowest MetroPCS Phone plan, it will cost you roughly $45 ($40 + $5) per month and will give you unlimited international plan.
Please note that Unlimited International Calling feature is free for the first month for new subscribers choosing the $40 Rate Plan or greater.
How can i signup for MetroPCS:
You need to visit a local MetroPCS Store in USA or by calling MetroPCS Customer Service at 1.888.8metro8 (1.888.863.8768).
Is there any limit on unlimited calling package? Whats the Fair Usage Policy?
Surprisingly MetroPCS doesn't mention anything about Fair Usage Policy. One of the existing customer might comment on this or you can call them before signing up. Most companies have FUP in place which restricts customers to go beyond a certain call minutes in unlimited call package.
Do you suggest to Signup for MetroPCS?
I believe its a good deal unless there is no limit on calls. Considering that you can call upto 10000 minutes to a certain destination, Lets say India. It works out to $45/10000=0.45 cents which works out cheaper than any betamax VOIP Provider like jumblo or actionvoip. On top of that you get national local and long distance unlimited calls included in the package. This can't get any better. However please verify on the number of minutes you can talk per month.
If you are an existing MetroPCS customers, do let us know your review/feedback on MetroPCS unlimited international calling package.

This is really nice and excellent plan. Unlimited minutes and unlimited India plan is great.only problem with metro pcs is its coverage. Metro pCS has very limited wireless coverage in USA.
I would not recommend metro PCS to my worst enemy...
they are a "pre-paid" carrier, however, they do not seem to understand the prepaid market. if you do not pay your bill on the date that it is due and you pay later, your bill is still the same amount, and the due date for the following bill is not changed to the date you made the payment, meaning that you will still pay for a full month of service even though you would only be getting a partial month worth of service.
also, for the $50 plan, the taxes and fees brings the cost up to closer to $65 per month... and they charge you $2 or $3 just to make a payment....
the coverage area is horrible...
all of there handsets use BREW - not java, so any additional software that you want to install to your phone must be purchased from them, as software needs to be certified for BREW there is no free software or open sourced software that you can install on there phones...
I had metro PCS for 2 months, and within the first 2 or 3 days of owning the phone I realized the limitations, I should have returned the phone within the allowed time that they give you to return the phone, but I thought I would be able to deal with the limitations, and I had laid out $150 for the samsung R-450 slider phone...
I ended up ditching them for boost mobile, there $50 plan after taxes and fees comes out to something like $54, and coverage is much better using the nextel iDEN network...
on the plus side metroPCS is CDMA, the sales person told me they use Verizon towers, but I do not think that they have much EV-DO, even if they did I do not think that any of there phones are tether-able....
Thanks vinay for postinf this one..!!!
Love to see if ATT or Verizon or even Sprint follow the lead of Metro
This seems like a real "wolf in sheep's clothing". Although it is claimed that you get "unlimited" calls to India, you actually pay $45 to get the facility...
There are so many VoIP providers who providers who can give you calls to India for practically next to nothing. For example in Australia, you get PennyTel who provide calls to India at just 2c (Australian) for a minute!
So let us work out the numbers... If you AUD1=USD0.80. So a minute costs USD 0.016. So with PennyTel for USD45 you would get USD45 / USD0.016, you get 2812 minutes! Which means if you were a PennyTel customer, to even consider going with Metro, you would have to be on the phone for over 2800 minutes per month. This is over 46 hours... One has to be pretty jobless to achieve that, assuming that you find equally jobless people at the other end!
Just now worth it IMHO...

I have had MetroPCS service for over 7 years now in the Sacramento area. There coverage has been great for me. It is truely unlimited service with no restrictions from the Fair Usage Policy.
It is true that if you don't pay your bill on time you will not receive a full month because the bill date doesn't change. But how often does this happen?? I can't go a day without my phone so I make sure my bill is paid online prior to my due date. Better yet there is no fee for online payments! The $2 and $3 charges are for in-store or phone payments. Personally I prefer to do all my business online.
I have the $45 plan and it is incredible how many services I receive with this. Taxes are around $6 but I am still getting a great deal for unlimited service.
I spend most of my time inside the covered area which is most of California. When I am not in the covered area I can still use my unlimited texting service and make or receive calls for only 19 cents a minute.
I have heard horrible things about Boost Mobile. I believe many of their problems are due to the old iDen network they are using and the lack of support they receive from their Sprint counterpart. I don't see Boost Mobile going the distance on this old Nextel network.
MetroPCS has its own 3G CDMA network and has made promises they will be upgrading to 4G CDMA or LTE in the next 2 years. This is on track with all other major carriers.
I do not make international phone calls but at $5 month how can you go wrong! Sure if you factor in the $40 you pay for MetroPCS service then the price is not as great. You would have to use all cell services to get the full benefit. Ditch your landline, ditch your current cell phone, and get MetroPCS to cover it all. The savings you will see may shock you!
MetroPCS is great. They offer unlimited talk time while you are in your home area as well as free access to unlimited talktime from any of their metro areas all over usa. I use them in addition to my tmobile phone which i have for my iphone usage to get the data plan, but a combination of both is perfect.
We are using metro pcs for more than one month, the quality is pretty good. The international calling to india is better than reliance.
Shelly, Which plan u r in? Iam thinking of switching to metro pcs for calling India. you have mentioned about call quality to India. Do u have Drop calls? How much do u pay including tax?
how is the service, connectivity in the San Francisco Bay Area specifically in the peninsula cities? do you get connected to india on the first try or is it just like the good old calling cards!!!
i am using the unlimited international Metro PCS, It did let me make calls to Indian cell phone in the begining but now, i am able to call land line in India not Cell phones. i am canceling my MetroPCS service, everyone in India uses Cell phones now. lol
I have a metro pcs phone, i was able to make free calls to India. Suddenly today they stopped my calls to mobile phones in India. I checked in their website and they say I can make calls only to landline numbers in India.
I made a call to a mobile phone in India even this morning ! Can somebody explain this restriction from Metro PCS ?
I am a MetroPcs Customer since last 2 years living in Bay Area. I enjoyed the benifits of Unlimited US Calling. With the introduction of the Unlimited International Call, I was very happy to Call India Cell phones. But they stopped the call to India Cell phone yesterday Night. I did not cancel my service yet as I call the Indian Landlines. Hope they would provide that for long time too. Cheers!!
Does anyone know whether the stoppage of calls to Indian cellular phones is due to a temporary problem, or if it is permanent...?
The bad part about the international plan is that they don't allow you to call cell phones. We used to be able to call Bangladesh cell phones, but now they stopped it.
Hi,
Has someone used Metro in San diego, specifically around UCSD? Their website shows the area covered on the map but says La Jolla isn't covered on entering the pincode.
I just purchased MetroPcs a week ago and just got the delivery by UPS. I haven't used it yet. The main purpose to buy it was to call India Cell. And now they have disabled it. Its of no use if they are not going to re-enable the India Cell option. Please suggest whether I should return or not? Is this only temporary??
i its wrost after suddenly i can not make it cell phone india & aafter fue dates 07/25/9 i,m able to make call for 2 days now it not
i don;t know why our problem is we need india cell & otherwise its not big deal
Before Metro PCS allows as to call in Inidan cell phone but suddently they stop service and allow only land lind. so i'm cancling the unlimited international call
