Ever dreamed about making free international calls while driving or walking on the street. Your dream might just come true with Witel, Wifi based free international calls provider. However is is worth it?
We already know Wifi based mobile VOIP providers like truphone,Defi Mobile offer a similar free international calls package. So what's so great about Witel.
Witel will route your calls over Wi-Fi networks. This means you can be located anywhere in the world and use the Witel service. All that’s required is a Witel phone and to be within the vicinity of a Wi-Fi network. No Computer or dedicated internet connection is needed. We believe getting a wifi connectivity in advance countries is not an issue but Indian subcontinent and most of africa is lagging behind on the Wifi scene.
Witel developed a mobile VOIP phone called the “Jetter”. This Wifi VOIP hone lets you make and receive calls using any available Wi-Fi network. Using the Jetter is simple – just turn it on and enter your Witel phone number and password, and it will automatically begin sniffing for Wi-Fi networks. Once you’re on a network the phone is ready to be used. The Jetter phone cost $59.99 (one time cost).
Each Witel subscriber is assigned a unique 7 digit Witel Virtual Number and 10 digit phone number that can be chosen from over 20 different countries, this a geographic number where anyone from normal PSTN/Mobile phone can call you on this number irrespective of where you are.
Witel offers two calling plans priced at $9.99/mo and $19.99/mo respectively.
1) Free Global Witel to Witel calls- Call any subscriber of witel for free anywhere in the world.
2) Free Global Incoming Calls - Get incoming calls for free.
Besides that, witel offers some standard value added features likes voicemail, international call forwarding, global directory assistance.
Now I personally believe there is a alternative free solution already available in the market. Take our good old mobile VOIP software Fring or Nimbuzz. Just intall it on your mobile and you are good to anywhere in the world. Secondly, you can switch to other VOIP Providers if you want to make calls to PSTN/Mobile phones, similarly you can port a incoming number via SIP to get incoming calls.
Witel in my opinion wanted to get the market share of people who are totally novice about the mobile VOIP scene. A mobile VOIP user would shy away from Witel unless they offers outgoing calls to PSTN/Mobile at reasonable rates.
If you are a Witel customer, do let us know your review/feedback.

Vinay,
I am a Witel user and an experienced technologist and Voip user and I think your article does not shine the proper light on the service. For starters they have the cheapest rates/plans I have ever seen in the entire VOIP industry. And even though they don't advertise it you can register for just their Witel Basic or Witel Unlimited plans by choosing the option (Already have a phone) on sign up. The sip server is sip.witel.com. Secondly their phone only retails for $59.99 which makes that more affordable and easy to give it a try. I preordered the phone and have been using it for a few days now, its absolutely an incredible value that in my eyes is unmatched by any other Voip or conventional phone company.
Witel is an amazing phone service. I have been a customer for a few days and have been making calls to Mexico and Costa Rica. The call quality is perfect and I am excited to fly to Mexico City next week and use my Witel Jetter for Free over there.. Thank You Witel
This seems a fair review. If you have a phone with wifi capability, you have many alternatives, such as installing Skype on your phone.
You know ,I recieved the for about 5 dys ,is not working ,And no cutomer service to talk to.Even email took them 4 day to end me same information i have notjing working .
Been using them since last week and am very happy. My experience with support has been very good and the price is cheaper than any other VOIP Service. Also I love the phone its very cool!
Well, I received my Witel Jetter.
Logged in OK with Virtual Number & Password.
But then the phone does not go beyond searching for networks .... - which is very funny because I have it next to my laptop which is connected to the internet via the home Wi-Fi network. How come it cannot detect this Wi-Fi network.
Has enyone else experienced this ?.
Did U ever get the Jetter to work on your home Wi-Fi network?
Good for you folks that got it working the first time round. But if it does not work there is no support number to call - you have to email WiTel or open a support ticket and wait.. wait ... wait ... There is a Live Chat facility on the WiTel Web Site but they should rename it Dead Chat as there is no response - Live Chat indeed !
Is my Jetter destined to be another useless piece of Junk?
Just got Witel for the iPhone. They have launched a free application in Beta. All I can say is that all your worried about the Jetter are now irrelevant because the Witel application is absolutely flawless. I urge everyone to give it a shot.

Can U please explain how to give it a shot as I don't see any new application Beta or otherwise on the WiTel website.
I received my Witel Jetter Phone. )n September 11, 2000! It has been nothing but a horrible nightmare! I requested a Denver, Co, Area Code ad they gave me a washington stae number! When people call me they get a message that all signals are busy! The phone regonize my network but will not complete any calls! There customer service sucks and i have submitted ( 4 ) customer support tickets and they have yet to respond! They claim that your support ticket will be answered in 24 hours or less! This is bullshit and they do not have a toll free customer support number! My phone is defective and they do not give a damn! anyone else with service issues please call craig, and let me know 303-800-6554..... I gave them my money in good faith and they treat me like crap! THANKS A LOT WITEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
UK user of Witel. Big Thumbs up. Received the Jetter to my Liverpool address in one short week. Been making calls to my family in Manchester and our cousins over the pond in Fort Lauderdale. Overall- Great call quality and the price is incomparable.
Thank you Witel for this exquisite service!
I am a new Witel user and was having loads of problems and finding deficiencies in the way their call forwarding and voicemail is managed. While no problem making calls via the iphone app but since it doesn't run in the background, anyone calling you will go straight to VM and then you will have to check your emails to see who called (it would be better to be built into the iphone app - to see and access VM and have some sort of push notification like Fring).
Customer support is pretty inadequate too. Considering this is a developmental stage company with very limited resources left at their disposal, I hope they can make it.
They need a moderated forum to have users help them work out the bugs and improve their product.
Just downloaded the Witel application to my Iphone working incredibly well. I must say this is truly fantastic to make calls for free to 50 countries for only $19.99
New Witel user who just downloaded the iPhone application. Have to say the call quality is better than my conventional mobile phone and I am very satisfied.
Will definitely be telling my friends about this!
Witel service is great, I have been using it here in the Philippines and its the best by far. The features is are very interesting and it is very affordable at the cost of $59.99 only. I used witel phone just a couple of weeks ago and quite impressed and satisfied with it.
Very happy with the Witel iPhone Application. Wake up people this is the real deal only $19.99 a month with no extra charges.. I am surprised people arent more excited about this.
The Witel application is fantastic, I am a user from Dubai who is enjoying using it. The 19.99 plan is cheaper than Vonage which currently doesn't have an unlimited plan for the iphone.
Wondering why mainstream media hasn't talked much about the Witel application, this thing blows away Skype and vonage in terms of costs. I am paying 19.99 and talking to countries like Italy and Spain.
Hello everyone, I wanted to say I am a user of Witel app from Saudi Arabia. I found the application on the I-Tunes store and have been very happy so far. The call quality is quite good and my favourite feature has been my London number which my friends call me on while I am in Riyadh or Dubai.
I have Witel phone for about 2 months...Several times same problems...the phone "freezes" and you have to remove the battery to continue......major issue is the message when you attempt to make overseas call: " your card balance is too low...good bye! " makes no sense, but it's there and you can not make calls....
during the call (when you are able to ..>)there are some breaking moments when you can not hear the other side....
Customer service is VERY disappointing....no live person, e-mails are not answered for 2-3 days, live chat support.....hahahaha, good luck!
But on the other side the deal is great....but everything else is not.
