Download PortSIP Pangolin VOIP Softphone for Windows Mobile

Mobile VOIP is taking over the traditional PC based VOIP and we need more than fring and truphone to survive 2010 communication needs. VOIP guide reader Priyanka reviews PortSIP VOIP softphone for your windows mobile. I have added a few lines to the review.

We discussed about a VOIP SIP Client for Windows 6 a few weeks back. Today we look at Pangolin. It is the newest free softphone application from PortSIP and it's built based on PortSIP VoIP SDK. Lets find out how Priyanka rated and reviewed PortSIP.

-----
I have found a better VOIP client for windows. It's free and supports both win5 and win6 for mobile. It also has an option to have the calls to be heard on earphone. Please tick this when you sign in to your sip login. The issue of sound coming through speaker in case of HTC TILT and other win phones is thus overcome.
When the call is being connected, you may want to click on the speaker icon and again click on it so that the sound would come through the earpiece.
Other features that the phone client has which I did not checkout are: 1. Call transfer. 2. Call recording.

Good part is that if you have multiple sip accounts it saves your sip login and config information for each sip userid as a dropdown list. You just have to select the relevant account and click on login.

The url to download the free client:
Win5 Client
Win6 Client

They also offer a PC based VOIP softphone if mobile voip is too geeky for you :-)

I observed that we need to manually type the phone number to call. The calls go through 3G in case of USA and the voice quality is very good.

Happy calling. I am very happy with PortSip and would recommend you to try it out too!

If you have been using PortSIP, please provide your feedback and comments. Thanks to Priyanka for writing a PortSIP Review.

the port sip has some issues, it messes up the gps system, I have installed portsip on htc touch pro cdma win mob v6 ,not able to make it workout, once installed the gps is not working, to remove this I had to hardreset the phone. heard from reviews that it works good on Gsm winmob phones , i guess the problem is with cdma phones here in US.

What a pity!!! Those apps are tested by some noob. I downloaded WM6 and tried on my Moto Q WM6.1. The app installed. The perf is such a pity. The SIP registration screen is half rendered, doesn't take siaply name, proxy, stun address, etc.

I am not sure if I am an idiot not getting this correctly or it's usual practice for those ISVs to release software untested..

Thanks,
Umesh

Good find ..works for me on AT&T Tilt.

I signedup for sipgate USA account which gave me free 200 minutes USA outgoing calls with a californa based DID.

I used the following settings:
User Name: 90XXXXXe0 -->( SIP-ID from sipgate)
Password : SIP-Password from sipgate
Proxy Server: sipgate.com
Port: 5060
Tick on use earpiece
Tick on Remember my password

Call quality is good. The recieving party sees my DID number from sipgate and I am using 200 minutes of free sipgate calling credit within USA.

Thank you .... You guys rock !!!

Umesh,
Try these settings (using voipbuster as an example):

User name : your VoipBuster username
Password : your VoipBuster password
Proxy server : sip.voipbuster.com
SIP port : 5060

Click on adavanced on bottom left side of screen

Under Advance tab:-
Domain
Auth Name:your VoipBuster username or voipnumber
User Domain: (leave it Blank)

Stun and Firewall OutBond Proxy:

Stunserver (option) : stun.voipbuster.com port 3478
Outbound proxy server : leave empty

Use G.711 codec for best results...

I did not use the advanced settings for testing using freedigits.

Cheers,
Priyanka

Trying on my Touch Diamond:

1) Doesn't seem to use WiFi connection. "Registration failed"

2) Doesn't seem to initiate a data connection (GPRS/3G). "Registration failed"

I had to manually connect to the ISP to be able to get it to register. But that's about it. Tried making a few calls, they connected but all I got was noise. Messed around with the codecs but it was of no use. Speaking of which, there's no G.726 (32 kbps) option so that sucks.

--

Also tried Talkonaut, but it doesn't connect *at all*, whether WiFi, GPRS or PC.

-

Fring works, but the call quality is very poor, even when connected via WiFi. Also, it appears that there's no option to choose the codec.

Guess I'll continue my hunt for a decent SIP client for WinMo..

Hi, I did testing getting good results .
This SIP client works fine on my HTC Touch ELF 0100 with wifi connection, also is registered ok on sipserver Asterisk (it behind nat and another network), the speakerphone is recognized too, this software is very nice.

Regards.
